Fissure Sealant Application

Pit and fissures of the teeth are areas of bacteria and food residue accumulation. Bacteria multiply thanks to food residues and disrupt the structure of the tooth with the substances they secrete. Thus, the tooth becomes prone to decay. With the application of fissure sealant, these deep fissures are shallowed and cleaning is facilitated. The tooth gets more resistant.

Fluoride Application

Fluoride varnish can be applied to both primary and permanent teeth. Fluoride mineral protects and strengthens the teeth against acid attacks which cause cavities. For the success of the application, milk and dairy products should not be consumed for 1 day following the treatment.

Pulpotomy

Pulpotomy is a treatment option to keep severely decayed teeth in the mouth. Just like in adults, caries in primary teeth can reach the veins and nerves in the middle of the tooth and cause severe pain. Pulpotomy treatment is, in some way, similar to a root canal treatment. First, the caries is completely cleaned. Veins and nerves affected by caries near the surface are removed. The difference from root canal treatment is that the vessels and nerves in the root are left intact. Compomer filling or stainless steel crown may be preferred as a choice of restoration depending on the amount of intact tooth tissue remaining after the treatment.

Compomer Filling

Compomer is a filling material used in primary teeth. The difference from the fillings used in adults is that they release the mineral fluoride, which makes the teeth more resistant to caries. Colored fillings can be used for the child patient to cooperate with the treatment.

Space Maintainers

When there is empty space neighboring them, teeth tend to move towards the space. Primary teeth can be lost earlier than permanent teeth eruption time due to reasons such as caries or trauma. The space occupied by the lost primary teeth should be reserved for the permanent teeth that will erupt in the following years. Otherwise, it may not be possible for the permanent tooth to erupt at the right time and in the right place. Space maintainers can be removable or fixed.
